I ate here for lunch today and really enjoyed my meal. It is such a cute, relaxing place to hang out with friends and enjoy some good food.
I ordered the Pad Thai, which I'd heard was excellent and I was not disappointed! It was a huge portion, attractively presented with fresh cilantro garnishing the noodles. I ordered the dish "hot." I think next time I will get the "medium" as I found it a little too spicy for me to eat the whole plate as the heat began to build. Nevertheless, it was a delicious dish - the noodles were just-right tender and the rich, savoury sauce was complemented by the crunchiness of the peanuts and freshness of the alphalpha sprouts. It was also very affordable priced at about 10 bucks for the plate.
I shared the Italian cream dessert with my lunch companions. It was a difficult-to-describe creamy dessert mixed with almond pieces and covered with raspberries. Again, this was lovely and delicous -- not too sweet or overpowering.
Next time I hope to visit SC for supper and sample some of their tasty-sounding alcoholic beverages! This strikes me as the perfect place to kick back with a pitcher of sangria and chill out for a couple of hours.
I had been to SC before and had good memories. It's a really cool fusion resto that serves some great island fare.
I went with friends for lunch today and had a great meal. I ordered the jerk burger with two-potato fries (mix of regular and sweet potatoes). The burger was perfectly seasoned. It wasn't overly spicey but provided tons of flavour, and it was dressed with fresh ingredients. The dish came with some seasoned mayo which was a perfect condiment for the burger and fries. Another friend had also ordered the burger and we were extremely pleased with the tenderness of the patty. She commented that it tasted almost as if it had some lamb in it. The bun they used was also really good -- not too much bread (hate tasting more bread than meat) and it was soft and squishy. My other friend ordered the pad thai and she seemed quite pleased with that selection.
For dessert, the three of us shared the Italian Cream which was so decadent and perfect for sharing!
I ate here on Wednesday for the "A Taste for Life" event which raises money for AIDS charities.
I was really excited to go to Savana Cafe as I had been meaning to try it for a long time and had heard good things.
We were six in total. BF and I split the calamari for an appetizer that came with a yogurt/garlic/mint sauce. The calamari were delicious but I felt the sauce could have been spicier (though that is personal preference).
Three of us had the chicken roti (chicken and sweet potato curry) with collard greens, cranberry and green apple chutney and plantains. I liked the roti but I didn't love it - the curry was almost too sweet for me as I was expecting something that, well, tasted more strongly of curry. Also, the collard greens were very delicious and simply dressed in vinegar. However, they were not listed as a side dish on the menu and plantains were - and there were only three small "chips" of plantains on our each of our plates. I was disappointed by this because I love plantains and I had hoped they would be lightly fried and soft instead of hard, like chips.
BF had the Cubana chicken which was stuffed with bananas and cream cheese and had an orange jalapeno cream sauce. He seemed to really enjoy it but when I finally took a bite, it tasted to me like tropical fruit cake (if that makes sense) so depends on your tastes.
The other two ordered the pad thai and the red curry bowl (tofu). The pad thai looked really, really good and the portion was enormous.
One more thing of note: they make a perfectly yummy white wine sangria. It's sparkling wine with guava juice, cassis (I think) and fresh mint.
Went here for lunch today with a co-worker. She's been telling me about the pad thai for months now, so of course that's what we ordered - along with the spring rolls and a beef salad. Oh my god...everything was amazing. The pad thai is the best I've had outside of Montreal, and the beef salad was surprisingly light and refreshing (a good complement to the spicy noodle dish).
I'll be heading back there for sure! The drink menu looked wonderful (sadly I was driving).
Went with some office mates of mine for lunch and had the best jerk chicken ever. I've been told to eat here for years and will be back with more friends.
I went here a couple times and got the same thing both times. The green curried soup is my favorite and it's outstanding!! I got the red curried noodle bowl with tofu as a main. (you can choose from chicken or tofu) But I suggest you always get it hot! cause the medium isn't very hot at all.. which is normal for fusion restaurants. I really love this place though. They have a cute patio, good and interesting wine selection and friendly service!
Had dinner here last week with hubby and a friend. This was our friends second time eating at this restaurant and the first was at our recommendation, so she asked us to meet her there for dinner since she liked it so much the first time.
They have changed the menu a bit since we were there last and they have all been beautifully re-printed with some new additions to the menu. (It is their 25th anniversary!!)
We started off with some fancy caribbean drinks from their new drink list.
My friend and I shared the calamari which I had actually never ordered there before despite having eaten there at least 25 times. It was perfectly crispy and the yogurt/mint dipping sauce went very well. Hubby had the delicious Kalaloo soup which is what we usually order.
For mains my friend and I had the fish special (as usual) which was turbot with a pesto sauce (?) and served over bok choy with a side of sweet potato salad. It was a perfect portion and very tasty.
Hubby had the jerk chicken which comes with lots of interesting sides: mashed sweet potatoes, coconut rice, cranberry chutney, plantains and collard greens. This is his favourite dish.
I was able to squeeze dessert in and went for the old standby: banana cheesecake with chocolate sauce. This dessert is always fresh and is made with real bananas. YUM!!
We have the Entertainment book so our bill (for two of us) came to $70 something including the discount, tax and tip.
Service is usually about the same: friendly and slightly sparse.
I visited Savana with two girlfriends last Friday. I'd never been there before and found it to be very pleasant, and the food was super tasty! I started with the Kalaloo Soup which I was a bit worried would be searing given that scotch bonnet peppers are listed as an ingredient, but in fact, it was an interesting combination of flavours. For me, the dominant flavours were the coconut milk and lime along with the peppers. The red curry tofu bowl was yummy if very heavy (lots of coconut milk). Definitely a generous portion! The other two shared the fresh rice-paper spring rolls and seemed to enjoy them quite a bit. Apparently, the fish special was also very good if a slightly smaller than expected portion.
We also shared a half litre of the house white wine. Quite good.
I love the decore and the layout. :) Just be careful on the way to the bathroom. I saw/heard three different people trip on a raised lip on the floor.
Not a cheap evening, but I didn't feel that I was paying too much given how much I enjoyed the food.
Sgt. Yum Yum
