Went here on a recent Sunday afternoon for lunch. Big fans of the Memories Restaurant in Winnipeg - not sure if there is a connection here.
Decor is fine - bit run down and the table wobbled. Good bread and drinks were served fairly quickly. Server was very nice, but slow - I think there was a trainee working, so our server seemed to picking up a few more tables than normal. Had the special - Chicken Club sandwich of some sort. Disappointed that they were out of hummus. Apple pie for dessert - yummy!! Will be back for desserts for sure - have to try again for a meal, though, before I make a final decision.
I like this place for the location, decor, service and the relative simplicity of the food. Soups are good, cafe au lait and cakes too. I do have some concerns over the cooked dishes though - recently had eggs benedict here and found the eggs cooked but strangely cold in the centre. A word with the server revealed that the eggs are actually precooked then reheated for each order. Drenching them in hollandaise then hides a multitude of sins. I'll be sticking to the coffee and cake in future.
My wife and I used to be semi-regulars here when we lived in the Market area. We went back for the first time in many years on Thursday night after a movie. I had a multi-layer chocolate-raspberry torte that was very good (pretty rich, but not uncomfortably so) and my wife's pumpkin pie was also very good. It was supposed to be a pumpkin-orange pie; the orange was pretty subtle, but it was still good. Coffee was only so-so (I'm hard to please when it comes to coffee, but there are other places I'd prefer to go in the area if coffee was the priority). Glad to find that this is still a good destination for dessert. It was not very busy for a Thursday night.
Love going here for a slice of carrot cake. The slice is huge! Definitely a meal in itself or enough to share a little bit...It's nice and moist, but not soggy. The icing isn't too thick, which is a pet peeve of mine when all you can taste is icing. Excellent patio for people watching and catching up with friends.
Candice and I swung in today having walked past it a million times in the last few years. So cute! Surprisingly big inside. I had a chickpea potato curry burrito with mango chutney which I couldn't improve, and a very good cafe au lait. It's a nice little step up for lunch when you want a bit more than a panini.
We foolishly resisted dessert. Next time. Next time!
Today we went to Memories for a quick lunch, and I ordered the same roasted vegetable quesedilla that Tiana ordered in her comment. I agree with her, it was very tasty! Instead of the usual salsa as part of the filling this had a tomato and vegetable pesto. Lunch for myself and my husband came to only $30 with tax and tip.
Went here for lunch today and had the roasted vegetable quesedilla. It was super awesome. They kind of make a mush of the veggies and the edges get all crisp and yummy. It was served with sour cream and a bell pepper salsa.
I like the casual yet friendly service I always get here.
