I finally went to l'Espresso with a friend this week.. it was the first time i had been there, even though i live 2 minutes from the restaurant.
I heard that the owner or chef is the same guy that's at le St-Estephe, and i had seen the menu on the website, so i had a good idea of what it would be like.
The place looks VERY average from outside. It looks dark and kinda crappy. When you go in though, it looks very decent. The waiter was very good, and friendly, and the prices were quite good.
I had the table d'hote. It started with a filo pastry filled with mushrooms. It was quite good. The sauce to go with it was very good too.
Second dish was the soup of the day.. asparagus cream. It was ok.. as are most cream soups pretty much everywhere.
Main course was braised lamb, in a red wine sauce. Even though the sauce was a little bit too salty, it was very good. The lamb had obviously been braised for many hours.
There was a dessert that came with it, but by that point i was full.
I enjoyed the experience, and it was cheaper than what i'd pay at other restaurants for that kind of meal. I'll definitely go back to try some of the other dishes.
16-04 EDIT: i went to l'Espresso again last friday. The meal was OK.. but not as good as the first time. The service was very good once again, but i found the dishes were so-so. The first course i got a salad, but there didn't seem to be any dressing at all on it (it was supposed to have a honey/herb dressing). The second dish was a green veggie soup, and it was pretty bland. Finally the main course was braised rabbit, and that was pretty good. The accompanying rice and veggies were perfectly cooked.
Again, the price was very reasonable.
27-06 EDIT: I went back to l'Espresso twice since april. In may i went there with friends and the meal was very average, i didn't care that much for it. Not that the food was bad, but just that it was very average. Last night i returned and got a good meal. The entree was escargots and scallops in a saffron cream sauce and that was excellent. The main meal was a seafood and smoked salmon salad, and it was good but due to the hot weather i was not very hungry and only half finished the plate.
