We were here for lunch on Monday (original plan was to go to Jo Moon Ting for lunch; but Jo Moon Ting was closed on Monday).
The place was almost full. So, we ordered the typical dishes for lunch:
- Shrimp won-ton noodles in soup (雲吞麵)
- Deep-fried Bread Stick
- Pork & Gold Preserved Egg Congee 皮蛋瘦肉粥 ($5.50, I think Jo Moon Ting charged $4.25)
- Fried Noodle with Shredded Pork, Chicken, Mushroom and Bean Sprout (三絲炒麵)
- Coffee mixed with Hong Kong style tea (鴛鴦)
We were so disappointed with the "deep-fried bread stick". It was so hard that my sister's teeth can't even handle it. Basically, it was like leftover being deep-fried again. I know it wasn't fresh when it arrived on our table.
I wasn't impressed with their won-ton noodles soup either this time. The shrimps at Jo Moon Ting were bigger and smelt like shrimps. The shrimps at Cafe Orient can't be compared and the soup base was just too bland.
The congee and the fried noodle were alright.
It was a cheap lunch though. I remember the bill was around $48 for 6 people. Good price!
But after my friend told us the story she heard from one of their ex-waitress, I will not go back to eat here again. (I will not tell you what I heard about this place. If you want to know the story, write me a private message. It is about mice story inside the kitchen.)
P.S. If you come to this place to eat, don't forget to visit their washroom and try out their automatic toilet seat. Kind of hi-tech! Very neat!
When I want to eat wonton noodles (雲吞麵), this is the place in Ottawa. However, the wontons still can't be compared with Toronto's wonton places. Once I have tried the wonton noodles at Kenny’s Noodles (聯記麵家) in First Markham Place, Toronto, I don't remember the wonton taste at Cafe Orient anymore.
