I moved to Ottawa from Vancouver in July 2007. I had dozens of favourite eating spots on the west coast, and now I'm looking for the great Ottawa eateries.
I miss cheap sushi and outstanding Szechuan more than anything, but Ottawa takes Vancouver down when it comes to croissants, cheese and anything to do with meat, especially duck and lamb.
I like fresh food with simple local flavours. In the winter I get my produce from Life Organics and in summer I favour the Ottawa Farmers' market. I'm no strict 100-miler (avocados and limes are too much a staple in my home) but I do like to see the faces of the folks who grow my food.
