Moving to Ottawa [General]

What area of Ottawa are you moving to, if you don't mind me asking? Ottawa has so many food options spread out all over town.
Generally though, Ottawa can't miss foods (for me anyway, this is totally subjective) are: DiRienzo's italian coldcut sandwiches (full disclosure, I'm friends with family), vietnamese pho, lebanese shawarma & falafel, fresh fruit & veg from the farmer's markets, french pastries from the French Baker on Murray St. (Mousse, plz give me free pastries for that plug *wink wink*), annnnd... our Chinatown, Little Italy and Byward Market are fun spots for food "purveying" ;) Welcome!
Edit: OH YEAH! Go get a pupusa from La Cabana or El Tucan. It's a Salvadoran specialty! Try it out! It's cheesy, beany, meaty, fried-y goodness.

Welcome! The only real answer to your question is... just visit this website often. :-)
You've pretty much described our raison d'être here.

Kali - Welcome to Ottawa! This city has a lot to offer, more than most people on the outside would imagine, I guess you could say we are just a little more "low key" about acknowledging our many attributes vs a bigger city. There are first class restaurants, ethnic spots and lots of festivals (food & otherwise). We are also in a unique situation because we sit cheek-to-cheek with Gatineau-Hull across the Ottawa River, where you can find amazing French and French Canadian cuisine. If you like wine, Ottawa is a great city, we are home to the largest Food & Wine Show in all of Canada (if not North America). I just read somewheres that Ottawa has the most educated (and keen) wine population in the whole country. There are great wine spots sprouting up all over town, that have knowledgeable sommeliers to recommend, teach and pair wine with food offerings.
Anyways as Fresh Foodie said you'll just have to visit the website often to become acquainted with all Ottawa has to offer... just think of it this way, surfing this turf is a lot easier than walking the block!

Chimi, say hello next time you come in and we'll see :)
As long as we're shamelessly plugging here, I have to add that in about a month's time you don't have to come to the Market to buy from the French Baker as the boss is opening a second location in the Glebe.

Where are they opening the new location in the Glebe? Very exciting but could be dangerous for my waistline!

Summer it should be 3 to 4 weeks yet. They don't have to make any major changes to the place because production will still be done at Murray street.

I want to know everything! Where's the best grocery shops, the can't miss eateries, are there food fetivals? In would appreciate all information.
Many thanks,
